Ice fishin is one of the most
favored past times in Maine and happens to be my favorite past time. But if you’re
not me you probably aren’t as pro at it as I am so I’m going to teach you how
to be a pro.
First off know what kind of fish you
want to catch and find out what lakes have them. For example Mopang has got
salmon and perch and you need to know how high or low they swim. Perch and
salmon both like to chill near the top of the ice so you don’t need to drop the
hook down low like scrub.
Secondly you need to pick the right
bait for the fish you want. If you want to be a master baiter like me you
should use emeralds or shiners. If you want to be lesser baiter or really
hardcore use suckers and fish them on bottom. Also you need to know where to
hook them which you have three options eye, nose, or back. For the eye hook you
can jam it in one eye and out the other or put it through the bottom of the eye
and out the mouth. The nose hook is simple in the nose out the mouth. Now the
back hook you want to put the just behind the back fin.
Lastly you need trap’s an auger and
food. For traps if you don’t use heritage traps don’t fish at all because all
other traps are inferior. An auger any auger will do jiffy is the only brand I’ve
seen anyone use. Food is the big thing here you need to have donut holes they
are essential. You could bring bread and stuff for sandwiches but that’s only
if you don’t have a Coleman grill. If you get a Coleman grill bring deer steak
and cook it in crown royal maple it’s what I do and it’s delicious.
